Welcome Back to School 2025-2026

We are looking forward to seeing our Barrett Tigers on the first day of school for students, Monday August 25, 2025!

School Hours & Arrival

Our school day runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.

• Students eating breakfast may arrive starting at 8:40 a.m.
• All other students should arrive at 8:50 a.m. so they are ready to start the day. Students arriving after 9:00 a.m. are considered tardy and must sign in at the main office.

Construction Update:We are pleased to share that significant progress has been made on the kitchen expansion, and it will be fully operational when our Barrett Tigers return on August 25. Due to some parts being on back order, the construction team will still need access to part of the side parking lot. As a result, we will make some adjustments to arrival during the first week of school. Details about these adjustments are outlined in the First Week of School Arrival Procedures section below.

Kiss and Ride on N. Park Drive:

• Morning: 8:50–9:00 a.m.
• Afternoon: 3:45–4:00 p.m.Please stay in your car while doing Kiss and Ride. Also, note that Kiss and Ride is not allowed on N. Henderson Rd. next to the bus loop due to safety concerns.
  • Please make sure to display the “Barrett Pick Up Car” on your dashboard. You can pick up a card during Open House.

First Week of School Arrival Procedures (Grades K–5)

For the first week of school:

• Grades K–5: Meet your teacher and line up outside Door #2 (outside the original Barrett main door). This is a change from last year.
• Rain Plan:
  • Grades K–2: Meet teachers in the cafeteria.
  • Grades 3–5: Go directly to their classrooms. Staff will be there to help students get where they need to go.

PreK Students:

• Meet on the back playground.
• Rain Plan: Meet in the gym.

Students in Special Education Countywide Programs such as MIPA or Life Skills may report directly to their classrooms.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and lunch are available free to all students. Menus are posted on the APS website.Click the “Breakfast & Lunch Menus” Icon. Click on Barrett logo. Choose breakfast or lunch. View meal and nutrition information. Another option is to download the MealVier App.

Water Bottles

Please send your child to school with a water bottle that they can carry easily and manage independently.

Sickness

Please report your child’s absence in ParentVUE. It’s easy and we can teach you how! The other option is to call the attendance line at 703-228-8545 and leave a message.

Dismissal Procedures

Dismissal Times:

• 3:45 p.m. – Car Riders, Pre-K, and Kindergarten
• 3:47 p.m. – Bus Riders and 1st Grade
• 3:49 p.m. – Extended Day
• 3:50 p.m. – All Walkers

Dismissal Locations:

• Car Riders: Door #5 and escorted to black gate on North Park Drive
• Back Walkers: Back playground
• Front Walkers: Door #2

Please make sure your child knows their dismissal plan for the first day. If after-school plans change, notify your child’s teacher in the morning by note or email. Contact the front office with any afternoon changes.
