Dear Barrett Families:
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend! Can you believe this is the last week of school? It has been an incredibly exciting year with all of our students showing so much growth and progress. We hope all of you have a wonderful summer time away from Barrett and look forward to seeing you again in the fall. Don’t forget to thank a teacher or Barrett staff member before the year ends for all the love and support they’ve poured into our children this year!
Please see the messages below:

Clap Out: The Clap Out is a long standing tradition at Barrett that occurs on the very last day of school. On Friday, our 5th graders will be taking their last walk through the school at the end of the day. Students will line up in the hallway to give high fives, clap, and/or cheer on our 5th graders as they exit Barrett for their final time as a Barrett Tiger. Please join us in clapping out our 5th graders. If you would like to join us, please arrive by 1:00/1:10 PM and stand along the walls in the main hallway by the library. Right after the clap out, we will dismiss students with our regular dismissal announcement. Please exit the school to meet the students on the front lawn.
Field Day Updates: Due to the air quality last week, we rescheduled Field Day to Monday, June 12. We will be monitoring the weather as it is looking as though it will rain. In the event of inclement weather, we will hold a modified version of Field Day indoors and will share the plan in the morning.
Please note, there will not be any water activities for Field Day this year (other than Ms. Han running around with a spray hose if Field Day occurs outside.).
Summer iPAD Update: Due to a recent update, parents will be able to opt- in to having their child take their iPads home this summer. This means that we will need confirmation from parents that they do want the iPads going home with their child this summer. Please complete this form to indicate that you would like for your child to take home their school iPad for the summer. We will provide paper copies of this form as well. Please complete this form by Wednesday, June 14th at the latest. Here is information on summer iPad resources that will be available to your students until August 1, 2023.
Please note that the following students will be taking their iPads home this summer:
- Those attending summer school as they will need their iPads for summer school.
- 5th grade students as they will be taking their iPads with them to middle school.
If your child is not returning to an APS school next year, please ensure that the iPad and any chargers that are at home are turned in at the end of the year. Please e-mail Catie Bales at catie.bales@apsva.us with any questions.
