Dear Families,
Welcome to Barrett! We are so excited that you are visiting our site to learn more about us and what we are learning!
As part of Arlington Public Schools, our goal is to provide all our students a safe, supportive environment where they can learn and thrive. We are an inclusive community that empowers all students to foster their dreams, explore their possibilities, and create their futures.
Barrett Elementary School is a diverse community of students, families, and staff that are engaged and motivated to learn. We collaborate to ensure high levels of learning while nurturing all learners’ interests and abilities. Barrett boasts two exemplary projects to support these goals: Project Discovery, which focuses on hands-on learning in science and technology, and Project Interaction which promotes Family Engagement and teaches communication arts.
As an educator for over 17 years in APS and neighboring school districts, I am committed to excellence in our classrooms and school. We are focused on meeting students’ individual needs for challenge and support through a “Workshop Model” approach in reading, writing, and math – this allows teachers to provide differentiation and individualization daily. Our teachers work closely with each other and with our highly trained math coach, reading coach and resource teacher for gifted to plan and deliver instruction that provides rigor and support.
I am committed to strong communication and relationships with each family. I maintain an open door policy, and can be reached most easily by e-mail at catherine.han@apsva.us. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.
We are excited to welcome you to the new school year and hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Catherine Han
Principal
