Congratulations to Barrett reading teacher Josh McLaughlin for being recognized by the Virginia Lottery as a Super Teacher http://www.youtube.
Kindergarten – I love this music video made by Kindergarteners showing Project Discovery in action! https://www.youtube.
1st Grade – This past week and next week, all first grade classes are participating NASA’s Orion Exploration Design Challenge. https://www.flickr.
2nd Grade – Mrs. Jurkevic’s class came to the Discovery Lab three times last week to research the Apollo 11 mission, complete storyboards and then create animations using the Toontastic app to teach others about the mission. Mrs. Rente’s class will be coming to the lab Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week to work on the project. https://www.flickr.
3rd Graders are learning about Bats in the Discovery Lab and in the library. You may enjoy this Echolocation music video with your child http://www.youtube.com/
4th Grade – Last week Ms. Manley’s class came to the Discovery Lab three days. They used the engineering design process to build and test landers carrying marshmallow astronauts. Students made PAPER SLIDES and used the iPad to create a video highlighting how they applied the engineering design process. Afterwards the students logged into Google Drive and uploaded the videos to a shared folder for viewing on the SMART board. Ms. Toussant’s class will work on this project Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. Photos of the landers https://www.flickr.
5th Graders – Mrs. Harvey’s and Mr. Morse’s class learned about Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge from John Klavitter from the US Fish & Wildlife Service. Students signed their names on a poster of Wisdom, an albatross that is famous for surviving for over 60 years around Midway. Our poster will be sent to Midway and be photographed in various locations. The photos will then be shared with Barrett students. Photos from all 4 classes are posted here. You may especially enjoy the video clip of the 5th grade boys doing the albatross dance https://www.flickr.com/
