The Barrett teachers are reading the book, Literature-Based Reading Activities by Yopp & Yopp. One of the lessons I decided to try from the text, is BOOK BOX. I collected items related to a book on the Hubble Space Telescope and placed the items, along with the book, in a box. As I pulled the items out of the box, the students made predictions about the topic and plot of the book. As they saw each new item, they revised their predictions. I witnessed a lot of great thinking from the 4th graders! After we read the New True Book about Hubble, we created models of the Hubble Space Telescope. The students also had the opportunity to watch a few videos from BrainPOP related to the discoveries by the Hubble Space Telescope and other telescopes.
