Patuxent Research Refuge Visitors – Whooping Crane

Posted by Laurie Sullivan at 12/12/2009 7:00:00 AM

DSC00986 We were thrilled that Mr. Ken Lavish and Mr. Dennis Hartnett from the Patuxent Research Refuge in Maryland visited us this week. They talked to Kindergarten students about their work with the whooping crane chicks. They brought a real whooping crane researcher costume and a real puppet head that is used to train the chicks to drink water and eat food. Maybe one weekend you can visit Patuxent. Although the live whooping crane chicks are kept far from the noise of visitors, there is a display that teaches about the cranes. If you visit, please be sure to send a photo to Mrs. Sullivan at Laurie_Sullivan@apsva.us.
