Engineering Spinning Papers to Land in Hoop

This week the students reviewed the engineering design process and watched video clips of a girl, a boy, and an adult using the engineering design process with a lacrosse stick, gliders, and robots. The students’ challenge was to design a piece of paper so that it would spin and fall in the hoop. We first made a paper helicopter from a pattern. Then the students used their imagination and creativity to make modifications on the original design or even make a completely new design. Some of the modifications were an improvement, while other modifications were not as successful.
