The snow outside enhanced our Discovery Lab experiments with insulating blubber mitts & fur mitts to see how some animals adapt to the cold temperatures in the polar regions. The experiment connected to the Magic School Bus goes to the Arctic video we watched before Winter Break. Another activity at one of the Science Stations was for students to choose either the penguin or the polar bear and then research behavioral and structural adaptations for their animal. At another Science Station we had a lot of fun exploring the different apps on the new iPads, purchased in part from the fundraiser at Dogfish Head (thanks PTA!!). Some students showed their work on the iPad by placing it under the document camera which projected the image onto the SMART Board. It was also fun to watch DVDs showing research conducted by former Barrett students Alexis and Gabby related to Antarctica.
