5th Graders Study Marine Sactuaries

Mrs. Barnette’s class has been learning about how humans can negatively impact certain marine life species. With the use of the , students learned how ocean noise specialist, Dr. Leila Hatch, has helped to save whales in Stellwagon Bank, which is located near Boston, Massachusetts.

After viewing a short video of Dr. Hatch’s work, students selected a marine sanctuary to learn how other marine life species and environments are protected.

Soon, students will recreate an instrument used by Dr. Hatch which records sounds from under the waters of Stellwagon Bank!!
