Mr. Dan Redmond, solar energy presenter and researcher, has been working with our 3rd graders in the Discovery lab on learning how our electricity is made and what kinds of alternative energy sources can be used. After viewing a short video on coal mining, students got to touch coal and see how dirty it is even when just holding it in their hands. Following this experience, Mr. Redmond discussed the importance and usefulness of solar energy. Students got to explore solar panels and how a small fan can work with the use of the sun. To top things off, students got to eat solar made brownies! They were awesome! dirty hands Dirty hands from coal!coal Yuk!coal Really messy! solar energy Solar energy used to turn on the fan… solar oven Mmmmm…solar brownies!
