2nd Graders Skype with Shark Expert

shark https://www.flickr.com/photos/projectdiscovery/sets/72157651410900990/ During both sessions Dr. Mikki engaged our 2nd grade students with stories of how she became interested in sharks and her career/shark research, photos, models, and live video from her home in Boulder, CO. The students responded so well to her welcoming smile and intriguing research and interesting facts about sharks.

Principal Redding and the second grade teachers joined in the lesson and live tweeted from our Discovery Lab #KWBpride.

I think 25 minutes was the perfect amount of time for this Skype lesson. Part way through the presentation we asked the students to “Turn & Talk”. This allowed every student to have a chance to share interesting facts/concepts they had learned about sharks, as well as some time to wiggle. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions.
