2nd Grade Endangered Sea Turtles

This week the students in the classes of Mrs. Jurkevics and Mr. Porter discussed how people and nature can both help and harm sea turtles. Ask your child to play the sea turtle population game with the “fortune teller” that was sent home.DSC07634 Currently all species of sea turtles are listed as threatened orendangered. In the Discovery Lab we are learning about sea turtles throughsongs, a game, video clips, and books. In the game each student pretended to bea baby sea turtle. Using a Fortune Teller (see photos, blue or green papersstudents are holding), the student turtles encountered either positive ornegative experiences. If the experience was negative, the student sat down to show that this turtle was no longer part of the population. In each round of the game, the student turtle population declined. We represented this information using a line graph. Check out this music video to help youvisualize this multiple session lesson view it here.
