2nd, 3rd & 4th Grade Orion Exploration Design Challenge

2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades are currently participating in a two-day lesson about the new Orion spacecraft. Day 1 involves synthesizing information from several video clips and text to create a Tellagami animation on the iPad about Orion. On Day 2 the students experiment to determine which material will protect the astronauts from space radiation with the least amount of weight. We use simulated space radiation (light from a flashlight) to test the materials. The lesson is scaffolded at varying levels of complexity for each of the grade levels. Even Kindergarten is participating in the Orion Exploration Design Challenge! After every grade has participated, we will submit class names to NASA to be flown aboard the test flight of Orion (no crew aboard) that will take place in September 2014. 4th Grade Photos on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/projectdiscovery/sets/72157642257761603/2nd & 3rd Grade Orion Tellagami http://www.flickr.com/photos/projectdiscovery/sets/72157641961608413/ 2nd Grade Sharing Tellagami http://www.flickr.com/photos/projectdiscovery/sets/72157642254529215/
