Hello Barrett families! I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I moved from Toronto, Canada to Arlington in 1989. Over the years I have enjoyed watching how much Arlington County has changed since I first moved here over 30 years ago! I have four daughters who attended Arlington County public schools. I have 6 grandchildren, including one who attends the same elementary school that my children attended! Before returning to college to obtain my teaching certificate I spent seven years as a teaching assistant in Arlington schools. I am a graduate of Marymount University in Arlington and I am delighted to be beginning my 9th year as a 2nd grade teacher at Barrett Elementary. I have always be so proud to be part of the Barrett community.
I wish to impart to my students the knowledge that he or she contributes to the world in his or her own way and that each has great worth as an individual. I think Joseph Campbell put it best when he said, “The job of an educator is to teach students to see vitality in themselves.” Though my first name appears on my email firstname.lastname@example.org I would be happy for you to call me Jane (my middle name)! 2020! This is very special year for families and for our students. We have all experienced a year like no other with the Corona virus pandemic changing our lives in so many ways. And this year we will begin our learning in a distance model with fully remote resources. One thing I know for sure, it will be different and challenging. But I also know we can do anything if we help each other and remain positive and kind. Let’s have a wonderful year filled with new friends and exciting experiences. Together we can do it.
We Got This!
