Dan Redmond

Dan RedmondHi, all. My name is Dan Redmond, librarian at Barrett Elementary. As a child and young adult, I was fortunate to have adults feed my insatiable appetite for reading. A graduate of Virginia Tech and Harvard, I continued the love of fiction throughout careers in architecture, photography and environmental science. When my two children attended Barrett, I began substitute teaching here and at other APS schools. I began taking education courses at UVA and earned my library endorsement while working at the Wakefield HS library. I began a chess program there that grew to 200 student players per week.

In the summer, my wife and I are in kayaks, gardening and volunteering. My evenings are spent reading and playing mandolin.

I want to share the love and power of reading with our children, just as it was shared with me when I was young. My favorite author is Jules Verne, favorite book is “Mysterious Island”.

I encourage everyone to be a lifelong learner. Education can change lives.
