HI! My name is Claire Kauffman and I’m originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have been at K.W. Barrett since the start of the 2018-2019 school year. Prior to coming to Barrett, I was in West Virginia as a school counselor for students in PK-8. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania as well as a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration and certificate in School Counseling K-12 from Westminster College in Pennsylvania.
The school counseling program at Barrett is founded on the idea that all students need to feel that they belong. Our mission is to cultivate an open and inclusive community where students can develop empathy, perseverance and a belief that they are capable of anything.
The program focuses on three major components; classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. Within these components, lesson structure is derived from academic, career and social/emotion learning.
Barrett Elementary is an amazing community and I am so thankful to work at a school full of kind and compassionate teachers, families and staff.
