My name is Cindy McGonigle. I began teaching at Barrett in 2001 and have enjoyed being here ever since! Over the years, I have taught grades K-5 and all content subjects. I have also taught First Language Support, FLES Spanish, Spanish Immersion, and Summer Laureate and Young Scholars enrichment classes. I’m thrilled to be part of Barrett’s teaching team again this year.
I love teaching, but I haven’t always been a teacher. I graduated from Iowa State University with a BA in Design and Advertising and a minor in Spanish. I moved to Arlington and worked as a graphic designer for PBS for several years. However, teaching kept tugging at my heart. When I taught ESL as a volunteer in a community-based program, I was hooked. I moved back to the Midwest and received my Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Illinois. I taught in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, for nearly three years before returning to Arlington where I have lived ever since. I recently finished coursework at the University of Virginia to obtain an endorsement for Gifted Education. I’m very excited about adding that layer to my work with students.
Barrett is a wonderful learning community because students, families, and staff work together to make it so. I feel blessed to be a part of that process. Here’s to another great year!
