WALK BIKE ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY is an international celebration that encourages students to walk or bike to school while teaching them about the health, environmental and transportation benefits of walking and biking.
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.

APS is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our staff and students throughout the entire school day. This includes during lunch, when students will not be able to wear masks while actively eating or drinking. We have developed a plan to protect student health and safety during meals, in accordance with CDC and VDH guidelines for schools.
This fall, APS will provide free COVID-19 testing (symptomatic and asymptomatic) in-school for students, with parent/guardian consent, and staff. Walk-up testing will also be available after school hours.
All testing is free with no out-of-pocket charges, regardless of whether or not you are insured.
Families and Students Can Receive Free COVID-19 Vaccination at the Welcome Center
Arlington Public Schools (APS) will host Registration & AOVP Assistance Day on Wed., Aug. 25 at all APS schools from 12-4 p.m. Staff will also be available at the APS Welcome Center (2110 Washington Blvd.) from 4:30-8 p.m. to assist families with registering students. During Registration & AOVP Assistance Day, families will be able to register students new to APS in person and receive assistance from staff with the registration process.
To ensure a safe start to the school year, layered prevention strategies will be in place in all schools, including wearing a mask while indoors. APS encourages everyone to get vaccinated when eligible. APS will continue to review and adjust our policies in accordance with guidance from the CDC, VDH and VDOE.
