APS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month!

National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15-October 15Today begins the annual APS Hispanic Heritage Month celebration (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). Throughout this month, APS celebrates the contributions that Latino Americans have made to our nation, and especially to Arlington and our schools. We also take this time to recognize the trailblazing individuals who fought for progress and equity for their communities.

The theme for Hispanic Heritage Month 2022 is “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation,” which recognizes the diversity within the Latino community and encourages all voices to be recognized. This diversity is reflected in APS, with a student population that includes students from 19 Spanish-speaking nations and almost a third (28.7 percent) of students who identify as Hispanic/Latino.

The School Board will honor Latinx student leaders from each of our high schools and secondary programs, as well as school-based leaders, at the beginning of the School Board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 13. These students and staff will be recognized for their achievements and exemplary leadership.
